H=XZ2, 행복 방정식을 풀다: 행복의 결정요인에 대한 리뷰

행복은 심리학뿐 아니라 경제학, 사회학, 정치학, 행정학 등 광범위한 사회과학 분야에서 많은 관심을 받는 일종의 범용성을 가진 주제로 폭넓은 분야에서 다양한 이슈들과 접목되어 연구되고 있다. 본 리뷰는 행복에 영향을 끼치는 결정요인에 관한 광범위한 연구를 Veenhoven이 제시한 행복의 ‘투입-전환-산출’이라는 개념적 틀을 활용하여 비판적으로 검토하고 정리하였다. 행복의 투입요인과 전환요인은 상호작용하며 삶의 전반적인 만족도로 나타나기 때문에 한 사회의 투입요인이 향상된다고 해서 반드시 행복 수준이 높아지는 것은 아니다. 따라서 행복 수준의 제고를 위해서는 행복에 직접적인 영향을 미칠 수 있는 자원의 투입이 효율적이고 효과적으로 이루어져야 할 뿐만 아니라, 이러한 자원이 실제 개인의 행복으로 연결될 수 있도록 하는 전환요인에 정책적 관심을 기울여야 한다. 주제어: 행복, 행복 결정요인 |

A Review on the Determinants of Happiness

Happiness is a universal subject that has received much attention in a wide range of social sciences, such as psychology, economics, sociology, political science, and public policy. Additionally, it has been studied in combination with various subjects in numerous fields. This paper critically reviews an extensive body of research on the determinants of happiness. The review summarizes the existing literature based on a conceptual framework (input-transition-output of happiness) suggested by Veenhoven. Since the input and transition factors of happiness interact and are deeply intertwined, improving only the input factors does not necessarily lead to the improvement of happiness levels. This study suggests that the input of resources that can directly affect happiness should be provided effectively and efficiently. Additionally, this study suggests that policy attention should be directed at the transition factors that play critical roles in converting input resources into individual happiness.
