우리나라 불평등 추이와 구조에 관한 탐색적 연구*

불평등은 최근 우리 사회의 주요 화두로 많은 연구가 진행되고 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고, 대부분의 기존 연구에서 불평등을 생애주기에 따라 구조적으로 분석하기보다 단편적으로 보는 관점이 상대적으로 많았다. 본 연구는 이와 같은 선행연구의 한계를 극복하기 위해, 생애주기를 기반으로 하여 불평등 현상을 파악하고 청소년기, 청장년기, 노년기를 거치면서 변화하는 불평등의 양태에 대한 분석을 시도하였다. 먼저, 우리나라의 최근 10여 년간의 소득 불평등과 청소년기의 교육 불평등, 청장년기의 고용 불평등, 노년기의 건강 불평등을 살펴보았다. 또한 생애주기에 따른 불평등 양태가 어떻게 구조적으로 연관되어 있는지 분석하기 위해 한국노동패널 자료를 바탕으로 탐색적 로지스틱 회귀분석을 시도하였다. 본 연구는 보다 입체적으로 생애주기에 따른 불평등 현상을 파악하고 교육과, 고용, 건강 분야의 불평등 예측확률을 도출함으로써, 불평등의 구조적 양상을 보여주고 향후 우리 사회의 불평등 해소를 위한 정책적 노력에 상당한 함의를 줄 수 있는 실증분석 결과를 제시하고 있다. 주제어: 불평등, 생애주기 |
Inequality Dynamics in South Korea:
An Exploratory Analysis of Trends and Structures

Inequality has recently emerged as a prominent issue in our society, leading to extensive research. Despite this, many existing studies predominantly adopt a fragmented perspective on inequality rather than structurally analyzing it based on the life cycle. This research attempts to overcome such limitations in prior studies by exploring the manifestation of inequality grounded in the life cycle and analyzing the changing patterns of inequality through adolescence, adulthood, and old age. Firstly, we examine income inequality in South Korea over the past decade, educational inequality during adolescence, employment inequality in adulthood, and health inequality in old age.
Additionally, to understand the structural associations of inequality across the life cycle, we employ exploratory logistic regression analysis based on the Korean Labor and Income Panel Study(KLIPS). This study provides a comprehensive understanding of inequality across the life cycle, revealing the structural dimensions of inequality in education, employment, and health. The empirical analysis yields predictive probabilities of inequality in these domains, offering substantial implications for policy efforts to address and mitigate inequality in our society in the future.
