원전 선호에 대한 보수⋅진보별 과학기술자긍심의 차등 효과

한국의 원자력 발전 정책은 정권에 따라 급격한 변화를 겪어왔으나, 대중에 관한 논의는 이분법적 찬반 구도에 머물러있다. 이에 우리는 이러한 이분법을 넘어 원자력발전에 대한 대중의 태도를 확대, 유지, 축소, 미결정의 다층적 스펙트럼으로 확장하여 분석한다. 2023년 한국종합사회조사(KGSS 2023, N=1,230)를 사용하여 국가적 성취가 정치성향과 상호작용하며 원전선호를 형성하는 메커니즘을 분석했다. 분석결과, 과학기술자긍심은 모든 의견 범주에서 유의미했으며, 정치성향과의 상호작용 역시 유의미하게 나타났다. 특히 진보성향에서는 높은 과학기술자긍심이 미결정 선택 확률을 높인 반면, 보수성향에서는 확대와 축소라는 명확한 입장 형성을 촉진했다. 흥미롭게도 대중의 과반이 정치성향과 무관하게 현상유지를 선호했다. 경제적 자긍심은 예상과 달리 유의미하지 않았다. 이 연구는 거대과학기술에 대한 태도가 기술 자체의 특성보다는 국가 성취에 대한 해석과 정치적 신념의 상호작용에 의해 형성됨을 실증하며, 탈정치화된 숙의 공간 설계와 다양한 의견 스펙트럼 고려의 중요성을 제시한다.

The Differential Effects of Science and Technology Pride on Nuclear Power

South Korea’s nuclear energy policy has undergone significant changes with each administration, yet public discussion remains limited to a binary pro–anti framework. This study moves beyond this dichotomy by examining nuclear power preferences across four positions—expand, maintain, reduce, and undecided—and explores how science-and-technology (S&T) pride interacts with political ideology to influence these preferences. Utilizing data from the 2023 Korean General Social Survey(KGSS 2023; N=1,230), we estimate multinomial logistic regression models that include interaction terms between ideology and indicators of national pride. The results indicate that S&T pride affects nuclear preferences, with its impact varying by ideology: among progressives, higher S&T pride increases the likelihood of remaining undecided, while among conservatives, it is associated with a more definitive stance. Notably, a majority of respondents support maintaining the status quo, regardless of their ideological leanings. In contrast, economic pride does not show a statistically significant effect. These findings suggest that attitudes toward large-scale technologies are shaped by the interaction between interpretations of national achievements and political beliefs, emphasizing the need for depoliticized deliberative spaces and policy designs that acknowledge diverse public perspectives beyond a binary divide.
